Transition to School

St Mary’s School runs a “Transition to School” program in Term 4 for children entering Kindergarten the following year.

Children and parents are involved in four sessions during the term to become familiar with the school setting and some of the school activities. The children meet their Year 6 ‘buddies’ who will be a mentor in their first year at school. They also spend time with the current Kindergarten teachers and Learning Support teachers. Education sessions for parents are an important part of the Transition Program.

This program also gives parents the opportunity to meet other parents within the St Mary’s School community.

This program has proven very successful in allaying fears of both children and parents of beginning school and ensuring a smooth transition to ‘big school’.
