Student Wellbeing

STARS – A Positive Behaviour Program

St Mary’s Catholic School has a Whole School Approach to bring about positive behaviour.

This approach has a strong emphasis on encouraging appropriate behaviours and providing systems of support to bring about positive behaviours.

STARS is focused on proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviours to create a positive school environment. The aim of the STARS program is to teach and reinforce desired behaviour while implementing consistent, reasonable, positive intervention to address challenging behaviours. Resilience and friendship skills are a focus as well as encouraging student self regulation of behaviour.

S Share fun
Think safe, act safe
A Act responsibly
R Respect all that God has made
S Speak with kindness

Within each of these rules we have age appropriate behaviours and expectations which are discussed and reinforced in class and are regularly revisited. There is a weekly STARS focus.

We celebrate successes with weekly STARS awards presented at assembly.
